10 Skills I’ve gained in Ghana:

  1. Making toast in a frying pan
  2. Recycling “grey” water
  3. Washing my entire body in 6 mugs of water (1.5L)
  4. Using “Ahur” correctly
  5. Burning rubbish (safely)
  6. Opening corned beef tins without the key
  7. Putting coasters on top of beer glasses rather than underneath
  8. Sweating
  9. Putting 2 pin plugs in 3 pin sockets with the help of a toothpick
  10. Getting the attention of Ghanaian servers with “Tss” or clinking bottles

How do you do the toothpick thing? I need that! I’ve been in Tamale 3 weeks and am still wrestling with the electrics.

Penny: I sometimes suspect it’s the electrics that will kill me here

Dr Nick, sweating here is taken to a whole new level, you have to trust me on this one.

Linnet: push the (wooden) toothpick into the top hole to force down the rachet inside. While doing this you can slide the plug into the other 2 holes.

I also learned # 1, # 2, #8 and # 9(not with a toothpick but with a ballpen or Scissors!)
